An avatar is an image created for the computer. Many programmes and computer games require users to create avatars to represent themselves while they are online. When you enter a virtual world you are asked to create an avatar, which becomes your player. These can be designed using a set of predetermined features and accessories, from the basic penguin or monster design in moshi monsters or club penguin, to sophisticated self images in Second Life of Call of Duty.
